About Interests

On the AR wiki, a user who is listed as interested in subject X is just that; interested in that subject. If you are you skilled in subject X, perhaps you should offer to tutor that person.

To find a particular interest, go to Category:Interests and drill down through the categories until you find the one you're looking for.

Adding Yourself to a Skill List

Interest lists are just ordinary MediaWiki categories, so adding yourself to an interest list is the same as adding any other page to any other category. Simply add this code to your user page, filling in the blanks:

[[Category:XYZ Interest]]

Where XYZ is the name of the interest. Some fully functional examples:
[[Category:JavaScript Interest]]
[[Category:HTML Interest]]
[[Category:Microcontrollers Interest]]

Some fully incorrect examples:
[[Category:JavaScript]]
[[Categories:HTML Interest, CSS Interest]]

Creating an Interest List

Important Note: I'm still hammering this system out, adding features and coding a template set to make future edits easier. Please don't modify anything just yet. --Audacitor(t|c) 03:39, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

Since interest lists are just categories and categories are created the same as any other wiki page, you simply visit the URL of the page. Hooray for the transitive property of equality! Example:

To create the Foobarbazqux interest, point your browser at:
http://archreactor.org/wiki/index.php/Category:Foobarbazqux Interest

It must be noted that for each and every interest list, there is a corresponding skill list. Like interest lists, skill lists are just categories as well, so to make the Foobarbazqux skill list, go to:

http://archreactor.org/wiki/index.php/Category:Foobarbazwux Skill
